There is no video of District 4 Candidates, Gary Schmidt submitted the following Press Release
GARY R. SCHMIDT
CANDIDATE FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICT 4
Gary Schmidt, 35 year resident of Washoe County and former member of the Board of Equalization and candidate for County Commission two years ago in District 5, filed for the office of County Commissioner for District 4, with the registrar of voters at 10 A.M. Monday morning, May 5th. Mr. Schmidt moved to Sparks last year when he purchased a home in the old Railroad District three blocks from Victorian Square. Mr. Schmidt says he is running for office out of a desire and a moral obligation to give back to this country and this community for the opportunities that have been afforded him in his lifetime. He says it is his intention to help preserve and perpetuate those opportunities for others and to return capacity to the people to participate in, regulate and control their own government. He states “ I believe that it is essencial in order to preserve and protect our free society, our way of life, our democratic process, that we must all join together in assuring reasonable, rational, responsible, and realistic management of our municipal activities, services and regulations at the local level. The price of freedom, free will and free spirit, is eternal vigilance. The real threat to our way of life and free society is not hiding in a cave in Afghanistan, it lies within, even within our own government, and in our complacency and apathy, and our failures to vigilantly work to preserve and protect are precious rights and freedoms.”
He further states “I believe it is critically important to open the process back up and then beckon, encourage and promote citizen involvement. Individual expression, differences of opinion, eclectic life styles, eccentric perceptions, minority viewpoints, variety, and challenges to authority and the status quo should not be tolerated, THEY SHOULD BE WELCOMED, ENCOURAGED AND CELIBRATED for they are the spice of life, they give us all insight and wisdom, and encouragement and balance, for they are what sustains and drives democracy and makes America great.
Mr. Schmidt states that in addition to opening the process of County Government up for the people it is of paramount importance to adopt a sensible growth policy that makes all growth “pay its own way ” and to establish prudent financial practices that give the most bang for the tax dollar.
