Going Green! Promotes Sustainability

Focusing on the environment and encouraging education is the focus of the Go Green! Program which launched yesterday with presentations at Hunter Lake and Bernice Matthews Elementary schools, and continues today with a presentation at Elmcrest Elementary.

The City of Reno has partnered with the Washoe County School District, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and Change 5 in presenting a recycling education program to 5th grade students. The Go Green! Program is tailored to Washoe County School District science standards and strives to make presentations and activities meaningful for the students. The program includes an hour presentation on recycling and four weekly at-home activities to help students put what they learned into action and reduce their family's waste. Go Green! helps students understand the importance of waste reduction and recycling while challenging them to reduce their carbon imprint at home and at school.

One of the Reno's priorities is to enhance the City's efforts to reduce its impact on the environment and provide leadership in the community to encourage residents and businesses to join in this effort. Coordinating and promoting events, encouraging education, and taking action are key components to building an environmentally sustainable and economically vibrant community.
